I doubt either of them are correct really. There's probably a variable offset from "in phase" over the course of 2 rotor magnet passes. What I'd really like to be able to do is visualize the 3d shape of the field around the whole machine. I reckon that might offer some clues.

I see the difference now.

In ocmpmm-8x3-2stopped-1agw, the spinning stator is about 30deg off being "parallel" with the rotor magnet when they are aligned. It doesn't look to me like it would want to do that in reality.

Yep, it's a first attempt, almost certainly not quite what Al's machine is doing at speed, but maybe there's something useful there.

A .gif is 8MB, which is a bit large, maybe I will upload a couple stills.

I don't think the dimensions are exactly right, but then we don't know the magnetic material exactly as far as I know, so I wasn't too worrieed about that. I am pretty sure that the arrangement is correct, but I will post a still of the "layout" screen.
